Designing Mixed Reality-based Information Dashboard for Data Literacy

  • Type:Bachelor/Master
  • Supervisor:

    Shi Liu

Method

1.human-centered design process to understand user requirements,
2.implementation of an information dashboard with an existing MR learning system on HoloLens
3.Potentially transfer the artifact to other MR headsets, e.g. Meta Quest Pro
4.User evaluation of the system with target users

Goal of the Seminar

This seminar explores integrating information dashboard in Mixed Reality. With an existing MR prototype focus on wind turbines, including the energy production, revenues, among other data, the students should find guidelines and user requirements to design an interactive dashboard that allows users to better understand the data and improve their data literacy in this context.

Problem Description

Today, the use of information dashboard is an essential factor for organizations' success and improving data literacy for users. Decision-makers use BI&A systems in the form of information dashboards to make data-driven decisions. Information dashboards typically include visualizations capturing the status of key performance indicators on a single screen, while interactive features support deeper information exploration. Meanwhile, there has been an increasing interest in using dashboards with Mixed Reality (MR) head-mounted displays. MR have the aim to enrich the real-world environment with augmented information to overcome the limitations of the natural world. Yet, it remains unclear what opportunities and challenges for designing MR-based dashboards exist, and how should an information dashboard be designed in MR
